Provincial budget avails funding for COVID-19
MEC Motlalepula Rosho when tabling the 2021/22 Provincial Budget assured the North West Province that government will never cease to fight challenges brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic. She said the Province is committed to cover the costs in excess of R106.475 million associated with the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine programme and related costs.
The MEC announced that for the health sector to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and sustain the activities of expanding the prevention, screening, testing, hospital capacity and response to possible future waves of infections, an amount of R562 million is allocated in 2021/22 financial year.
Rosho indicated that it is important to prioritise funding for the vacccines as these have the potential to minimize the risk of infections of COVID-19 thereby reducing mortality rate in the communities.
She further said that the vaccines play a pivotal role in preserving and saving lives and livelihoods and supporting economic recovery. “It is our belief that these funds will address the challenges of COVID-19 and will assist to stimulate economic growth”, she said.
She pleaded the North West citizens to afford government an opportunity to provide community members with the much-needed vaccines and focus on debunking the myths, misinformation, and disinformation in circulation about the vaccine. “Our province has commenced with the roll out of the vaccination programme and from 14th March 2021, 11 769 health professionals were inoculated”.
