MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu is disturbed by the murder of the ANC eThekwini Regional Secretary Mr S'busiso Sibiya (46) last night, 11 July 2011.
Preliminary reports have revealed that as Sibiya was arriving at his home at Inanda Congo area, after attending ANC meeting, he came under attack from unknown suspects. It is alleged that heavy gunfire was heard outside his home and he was found lying on the driver’s seat of his brown Toyota Prado. He sustained one gunshot wound to the head and three on the upper shoulder.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Newtown “C” clinic where he was confirmed dead on arrival. Six empty cartridges were seized at the scene. The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage. The investigations have been taken over by the provincial political violence task team. The murder case docket has been opened at Inanda police station.
MEC Mchunu visited the bereaved family early today 12 July 2011 to pay his respect. “I would like to send my deepest condolences to the family of Sibiya. It is indeed saddening and disturbing that we still experience such brutal killings because of public representatives in KwaZulu-Natal. I am very angry that we are losing leaders in succession.
The modus operand looks the same with Councillor Mshibe who was brutally killed at his homestead in Yellowood Park early this year. He was also from the meeting when his killers attacked him however the South African Police Service (SAPS) is following the lead where they might have a breakthrough soon. I would also like to urge the communities, political parties to work very closely with the police,” said Mchunu.
