KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has condemned the killing of a policeman and woman who were brutally murdered and had their bodies dumped on the side of the road in Greytown.
Greytown police have opened two counts of murder after two people were found dead with multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies on the side of the road in the plantation between Greytown and Dundee last week. Initial investigation revealed that the victims were allegedly kidnapped from KwaNdengezi, near Pinetown, last week.
The two were identified as student constable Xolani Kwela (26), stationed at Pinetown police station, and Sindisiwe Ngcobo (25). Two suspects, including a police officer, have been arrested and were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Today, Mchunu expressed shock and anger at the murder of the two but declared that he was confident that police would get to the bottom of the motive behind these callous killings. “The brutal murder of the two young man and woman should be strongly condemned. But it is encouraging to know that the police have already arrested two suspects in connection with this murder.”
“Police should be commended for swiftly arresting the suspects and we are convinced that the investigation is going to soon reveal who is behind this nefarious deed,” said Mchunu. He said it was particularly disturbing that one of the suspects was a police officer.
“But this underlines that no none is above law. We have said once and again that we will remove all rotten potatoes within our own ranks,” said Mchunu.
Mchunu extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, promising that the justice would be served.
