MEC Mchunu calls Pretoria forensic team to investigate Empangeni accident

The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu has announced that a forensic team from Pretoria will start tomorrow to investigate the cause of a crash in Empangeni, which claimed six lives.

The six, of which four are from the Peterson family (a mother and father and two of their children) and two children from Ngubane family, had been returning from a church service in Richards Bay yesterday when a truck collided head-on with the VW Jetta they had been travelling in.

Mchunu, who today met with the Peterson and Ngubane families in Richards Bay to extend his deepest condolences, said a thorough investigation was needed to determine the cause of the accident.

"We have sanctioned a forensic investigation to ensure that we uncover all the possible causes of this fatal accident. We want to ensure a speedy investigation to ensure families have closure as soon as possible," said Mchunu.

A mass funeral will be held on Saturday 16 November 2013 in Richards Bay.
