KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC, Mr Willies Mchunu, has welcomed the arrests of two suspects who were sought in connection with the murder of a farmer in Mid-Illovo.
MEC Mchunu said today the arrest of two suspects would send a clear message to criminals that the police in the province were always working around the clock to ensure that those behind murder and mayhem in KZN were always put behind the bars.
On Monday, 28 October 2013 Mid-Illovo SAPS members received information that one of their wanted murder and robbery suspect’s was on his way to Gauteng.
The police were given the description of the minibus taxi that he was going to use to take him to Gauteng.
The members conducted their operation, searching for the said minibus and it was spotted in Montrose near Van Reenen.
The said minibus taxi was searched and the wanted suspect was found inside. He was therefore arrested and charged with murder and robbery. His arrest led to the arrest of a second suspect in the KwaMakhutha area in Durban South on the same day.
Both suspects, aged 27 and 28, will appear in the Richmond Magistrate Court today (Wednesday, 30 October 2013) to face charges of murder and robbery.

Today MEC Mchunu commended the police for a splendid job of tracing and arresting these suspects.
"This is a commendable action by our police. Their work gives hope to the people of KwaZulu-Natal that our men and women in blue uniform are working around the clock to close the space for criminals."
"Let those who have made it their work to commit criminal activities in the province be warned that they cannot escape the long arm of law and justice. We urge members of the community to work with the police to ensure that those rotten apples that harass our communities are removed from the society," said MEC Mchunu.
