MEC Ina Cronjé donates computers to Masijabule High

Christmas in January for Masijabule High as MEC Cronjé donates 20 computers

Life will never be the same for the learners of the deep rural Masijabule High School at Swayimane (outside Pietermaritzburg) as they woke up to a fully-equipped computer centre today, thanks to the donation by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Finance, Ina Cronjé.

The community of this area received state-of-the-art school buildings from the Department of Education last year including library, computer centre, and classrooms. When this happened the School Governing Body took it upon themselves to go all out, looking for computer donations for their school.

Their initiative bears fruits today because Provincial Treasury responded positively to their request by donating 20 used computers to the school. Handing over the computers MEC Cronjé advised learners to care and use the equipment wisely.

“I am especially happy because in 2004, I personally came to the school when there was absolutely nothing here, so we initiated the project and ended up with this beautiful school - much more than we envisaged at the time. It makes us proud that we are now handing over 20 computers in a beautiful computer-room that is fit for the purpose,” said MEC Cronjé.

A grade 12 learner, Samukelisiwe Zondi (17), could not hold her tears saying that she was not even dreaming of having the opportunity like this. “As a learner coming from a rural community, computers are too far from us, we only see them on the media, and we did not know that one day we will be able to touch and actually work on it. We will use these facilities to the best of our abilities and we wish for opportunities like this to keep on coming,” she said.

The school principal, Mr Mthetho Ngcobo, expressed his gratitude to the MEC and said that the computers will not only benefit the school. “Our school has 1162 learners who will benefit from these facilities. We have a plan to enable all our learners to access these computers so that they will be on par with their peers from other schools. Further, we have planned to make this facility accessible to the community”.
