The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Senzo Mchunu, would like to send his condolences to the family, fellow learners and educators of two learners who lost their lives in a tragic accident at Elandskop yesterday, 6 August 2012.
The two learners, Olwethu Maphanga (Grade 1) and Sphamandla Mncwabe (Grade 5) met their fate when the vehicle they were travelling in allegedly skipped a stopped sign and crushed into a bus on Bulwer Road near Elandskop. Sphamandla and Olwethu who were learners at Nkabini Primary School were certified dead on the scene.
“As a department we are very saddened by this untimely death. It is very sad to loose such young people who are in the prime of their lives and had a bright future ahead of them. The passing away of these two learners means as a department we have lost three learners within the space of three days following the death of Mpendulo Mzulwini last Sunday - for us this is very disturbing, “said MEC Senzo Mchunu.
