The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Senzo Mchunu, would like to send his condolences to the family and close colleagues of Lucky Phiri who passed away during a tragic accident at Ballito on Friday.
The late Mr Phiri was traveling with his colleagues, Nomusa Mchunu and Dumisani Mdletshe when the accident happened. The two sustained injuries and were hospitalised at Alberlito Hospital in Ballito.
“It is very sad to lose a colleague who met his death while executing Departmental duties. I can imagine how his family is feeling right now and I want to assure them that as a department we are with them during this time of grief. I would also like to wish other colleagues who sustained injuries a very speedy recovery,” said MEC Senzo Mchunu.
When the accident happened, the three officials were travelling to the Ilembe District offices after collecting courier from the Circuits. The late Mr Phiri was a Registry Clerk, Nomusa Mchunu is a Senior Admin Clerk and Dumisani Mdletshe is a Training Officer.
