MEC Cyril Xaba on presentation of new vision for KaZulu-Natal Agriculture and Rural Development

MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Cyril Xaba, convened a special meeting with commercial commodity organisations in the agricultural sector.

MEC Xaba used the meeting to present his new vision for agricultural and rural Development in the province. At the heart of the vision, is working in cooperation with other government departments, organized agriculture and local communities to grow agriculture as a major driver of the provincial economy.

Leaders of various agricultural sectors including the Sugarcane Growers Association of South Africa, Forestry representatives, livestock, grain, citrus and cotton representatives were part of the meeting.

Speakers at the meeting highlighted different challenges facing their sectors and how they could work with the department in realising its vision and growing the agricultural economy. The commodities praised MEC Xaba for initiating such a platform and agreed with him that the meeting was historic.

It was the first time in the province and in the country that commercial farmers and the department had gathered together and agreed to cooperate with a common vision.
