KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu is taken aback by the increasing number of deaths caused by vehicle accidents on KwaZulu-Natal roads. Three people died in road accidents today, bringing the number of road casualties to 30 in just six days.
On the R33 Wartburg turn-off, Greytown road, a pedestrian was knocked over by a white Isuzu bakkie. Both the driver and the pedestrian died. On the R103 Estcourt, between Frere and Chieveley, a panel van lost control and overturned killing one person and three are in a critical condition, they were taken to Ladysmith Hospital.
The MEC has expressed concern at the alarming rate of road accidents. “Our road traffic inspectorate officers are working around the clock to enforce traffic laws and to ensure the safety of all road users,” said Mchunu.
