Minister Bredell urges public to save water and electricity as Eskom grapples with Stage5 loadshedding
Anton Bredell, Western Cape Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning today urged Western Cape residents to make a concerted effort to save water and electricity. This call is made as Eskom announced an increase in loadshedding from Level 4 to Level 5 to safeguard the integrity of the national power grid. According to a statement issued by Eskom today, loadshedding could be increased even higher at short notice if further breakdowns occur.
“If each one of us switch off one appliance, use a little less tap water, and flush our toilets a few times less during this time, it will ease the pressure on municipal bulk water and sewage pumps, and allows Eskom space in which to address the immediate situation,” Bredell said.
Bredell said the province, through the coordination of the Provincial Disaster Management Centre, is monitoring the current diesel stock levels at all emergency and essential services, for them to be ready to operate if any further loadshedding announcements are made.
Eskom will provide a national update tomorrow, according to their statement.
