Mchunu stunned at the death of taxi owner in Ulundi

KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu has expressed great concern at the death of a taxi operator Samson Mthethwa in Damba area, outside Ulundi.

It is alleged that yesterday (12 February 2012) at about 18:30 a group of unknown men in an unidentified vehicle opened fire on Mthethwa after he dropped off his maid. Mthethwa was shot in the head and died instantly.

No arrests have been made yet and a case of murder has been opened.

Mchunu denounced this act and said criminality was unacceptable and vowed that the police would investigate this matter until the perpetrators are found.

“This is completely unacceptable. These acts of killing are slowly becoming more and more common in our communities. This raises the concern that there might be illegal firearms that need to be collected and accounted for. At this stage the motive of the killing is still unknown but our team is hard at work trying to get to the bottom of this. We can not however link this killing with taxi conflict until we investigate. We would like to appeal to the community to work with the police by coming forward with any information that will assist with the arrest of the perpetrators. I wish to send my condolence to the Mthethwa family,” said Mchunu.
