KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu sends his deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in road accidents this weekend. Eight people died on KwaZulu-Natal roads in two separate accidents.
On Friday, 18 September 2009, on the R74 Stanger, seven people died in a head on collision between a minibus and a bakkie. One person is in a critical condition and six others sustained minor injuries.
Yesterday, 19 September 2009, in Newcastle Memel Road, one person was killed when a heavy motor vehicle overturned. It is alleged that the driver lost control.
The MEC is urging all road users to be more cautious on our roads. However, Mchunu is pleased with the decrease of deaths caused by road accidents in KwaZulu-Natal.
