KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu has learnt with sadness of the passing of KwaZulu-Natal Transport Alliance leader Eugene Hadebe. Hadebe passed away this morning, 24 July 2013 in a Durban hospital after a long illness.
Mchunu described Habede as an innovative leader who contributed a lot into growing the taxi industry. “Hadebe was a robust yet constructive leader in the taxi industry who always brought good strong points in his debate and arguments. He was able to stand his ground and fight for the right of all members in the taxi industry. We were hoping that as we advance the resolutions of the Taxi Indaba which was held last year, Hadebe would be central in the implementation of resolutions taken at this forum,” said Mchunu.
“He participated in many peace processes aimed at restoring and maintaining such in the taxi industry and ending violence, ” said Mchunu.“On behalf of the government of KwaZulu-Natal I want to extend our condolences to the KZN Transport Alliance and to the entire taxi industry.
In remembering Hadebe we will continue to advocate for transformation in the taxi industry and to maintain order and stability, ” said Mchunu.
