Mchunu saddened by the death of eight people in Ulundi

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu is saddened by the death of eight people in a head-on collision in uLundi.

This horrific accident happened last night on R66 next to Ntibane lodge, outside Ulundi.

Two vehicles, a Silver GWM bakkie and a truck, collided at around 18h30 yesterday. It is believed that one driver lost control.

Occupants were mainly from the bakkie.

Mchunu has instituted an investigation to establish the cause of this accident.

"It is unacceptable that so many people can die in one accident. We are saddened by continuous loss of innocent lives on the road. We strongly feel these accidents are unacceptable and are avoidable. This should be a lesson to motorists to respect and adhere to the rule of law. We will continue to strengthen our road safety campaigns under Operation Valingozi and will continue maximising enforcement on the road. I send my deepest condolences to all the families of eight people," said Mchunu.

Mchunu will soon visit Ulundi to meet the bereaved families.
