Mchunu commends police for successfully apprehending potential robbers

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu has commended the police for successfully intercepting a potential robbery earlier today in Sarnia Road outside Pinetown.

It is alleged that six men aged between 30 and 40 years were arrested earlier this morning, 2 November 2011 after the police received a tip off of a potential robbery. Upon spotting the vehicle the police stopped the vehicle which was carrying the six men and searched the car. Police found an R5 assault rifle, two magazines and 43 live rounds of ammunition.

It was later found that the six suspects had intended to commit a robbery in the residential area of Rossburgh.

Mchunu commended police for their bravery.

“I commend the police for working hard in infiltrating these gangs of robbers before they cause any harm to the community. It is clear that they were about to cause havoc in the community with the type of ammunition they had. No one carries so much ammunition without the intention of causing harm. It is deeply worrying that criminals can have such heavy weapons at their disposal. I would like to thank the community for volunteering with information that prevented these criminals to act on their initial idea. I want to send a call to all community members to help the police in this fight against crime”, said Mchunu.
