Spectators and participants in the Dundee July 2013 traditional horse racing event have lots of thrilling attractions awaiting them.
The wait is almost over with the spectacular rural horse race taking place next week Saturday, 20 July at the northern KwaZulu-Natal town of Dundee.
The race which has continued to show positive growth was established by the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation in partnership with the Umzinyathi District and Endumeni Municipalities.
Since its inception eight years ago, the event has rejuvenated the sporting, social and economic life of the region previously only famed for its largest coal reserves in the country and the historic battlefields memorials.
The 2013 event brings good news for the riders and horse owners, with the announcement that the total prize (stake) money has increased from R120,000 to R310,000. But more importantly this now means that all participating horses, including losers will not go home empty handed.
For the general public, the seating capacity of the venue has been increased and all stands repainted. There should also be no worries for all those who has expected secure invitation into the hospitality marquees but didn’t because there are many “fee charging” marquees awaiting them.
As a new addition also, designers with best outfits for at the fashion shows will be rewarded with prizes of up to R30 000 for the top designer, courtesy of the KZN Fashion Council, one of the new sponsors.
Besides the race, there are many exciting pre-race events that have been included to add to the festivities. They include sporting events, a multi-cultural street carnival on the eve of the Dundee July.
