Limpopo Health signs memorandum of understanding with Ndlovu Care Group

The Limpopo Department of Heatlh and Ndlovu Care Group signs a memorandum of understanding

The Limpopo Department of Health and the Ndlovu Care Group welcome the mediation process led by the South African Human Rights Commission which was attended by of Section 27, representatives of the National Department of Health and the South African Human Rights Commission. The mediation process culminated in the singing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties (Limpopo Department of Health and Ndlovu Care Group). The MOU will see the two parties working together in the process of transferring HIV patients from Ndlovu Care Group into the public health facilities of their choice.

The agreement emerging from the mediation process outlines the following among other things:

  • That the Memorandum of Understanding between the department of health and Ndlovu Care Group be finalised and signed immediately
  • The Limpopo Department of Health will forward the MOU and the implementation plan to the South African Human Rights Commission and the commission will monitor the implementation of the MOU
  • The transferring of patients from Ndlovu Care Group to public health care facilities of their choice commence as soon as the Memorandum of Understanding between Ndlovu Care Group and the Limpopo Department of Health is signed.
  • The Limpopo Department of Health, assisted by the National Department of Health will approach the Office of Health Standards Compliance to assess the state of readiness (in terms of capacity) of health care facilities in Moutse to welcome patients from the Ndlovu Care Group
  • If any dispute arise between the two parties, the South African Human Rights Commission to intervene/
  • The two parties will refrain from making negative public utterances.
  • The South African Human Rights Commission will from now henceforth handle all media enquiries relating to the process jointly undertaken by the department and Ndlovu Care Group.
     

It is against this background that the Limpopo Department of Health and and Ndlovu Care Group believe that the MOU facilitated by the South African Human Rights Commission will go a long way in ensuring that the process of transferring patients is concluded without affecting the patients’ wellbeing. Both parties wish to confirm that the patient interests will be the fundamental consideration in all their undertakings.
