KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu has called on Human Resources Practitioners to be exemplary and assist to inculcate the culture of professionalism in the civil service. He was speaking during the two-day Human Resources Convention hosted by the Office of the Premier at Sibaya Casino in Durban.
The convention is attended by HR practitioners from three spheres of government. “Not only must our civil service serve with an increased sense of urgency, but it must be at all times sensitive and show compassion.
A strong effort has gone to entrenching a human rights culture in the civil services with emphasis on courteous and efficient service in line with the principles of our citizens charter and Batho Pele principles.”
“Critically, through the charter we are reminding all civil servants that the people who voted us into office voted because they had hope for a better future. By voting, they were exercising their democratic right. Therefore we need to ensure that it is the ordinary people who must taste the fruits of freedom in a manner that changes their lives for the better. This is their inalienable right.”
“One aspect which is very critical which requires an involvement of practitioners is the fight against corruption and maladministration in the civil service, I am glad that this issue is under discussion and I am looking forward to your resolutions and recommendations which I believe will assist us to eradicate this scourge which frustrates the aspirations of our people.”
