KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo has passed his deepest condolences to the families of three department employees who died in a horrific road crash along the R614 in Harburg on June 16 2014.
Tragedy struck when a vehicle driven by Appelsbosch hospital driver Miss Thembi Ngubane and the hospital security guard Mr Mbongeleni Ndlovu and another driven by Montebello Hospital Assistant Nursing Manager, Matron Tshengisile Nxumalo collided.
The three of them died. The security guard was being transported to Gcumisa Clinic to provide relief and the Matron was going to report for duty.
MEC Dhlomo met with the families today (June 19 2014). He said: "The pain felt by the families is reverberating in all the valleys and hills of Montebello and Appelsbosch where these servants of the people had committed to serve.” MEC Dhlomo hailed the deceased for having had the will to forsake the creature comforts and trappings of city life to work in rural areas. “It pains me that I was here a month ago to hand over a beautiful residence that will assist in retaining of staff and further staff recruitment.
It’s not every medical worker who chooses to work in rural areas. If we lose people of this calibre they become very hard to replace,” he said.
