KZN cabinet welcomes Manase Report

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government has welcomed the Manase Report detailing allegations of fraud and corruption in the eThekwini Municipality and rejected suggestions of racist motives behind the investigation.

After a briefing today, Wednesday by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube, cabinet called for the matter to be handled with sensitivity, and appreciated the steps she had initiated to deal with the investigation in accordance with the relevant statutes, specifically the Municipal Finance Management Act. The Executive Council noted that she had fulfilled her legal obligation to investigate all allegations of irregularity.

"All she has done is part of her official duties, not a personal prerogative," cabinet pointed out. Cabinet further welcomed that the municipality's full council had been briefed and thanked it for the manner it had received the report.

Cabinet looks forward to the municipality's further handling of the matter. "We call on all those who might be affected by the report to use the correct platforms to air their side of the story. In this regard, we reject demeaning comments and outrageous statements in the media. Appropriate forums should be used to clarify issues as per the audi alteram parterm rule," cabinet added.

MEC Dube will consult other Members of the Executive Council in handling this matter.
