HOD Magagula donates books and laptops at Zama High School
Osizweni township’s Zama High School end the week on a high note today when KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Treasury Head, Mr Simiso Magagula, descend on the school to donate much-needed learning resources.
Head of Department Magagula has donates 10 laptops, and six large boxes full of books to assist the school patch up learning resources that were stolen.
“This government, through Operation Sukuma Sakhe programme, makes necessary interventions to the community to improve the quality of life in our people. This is our response to a call to intervene after the school learning resources were stolen.
“Zama High School has an impeccable track record to produce good results and we could not stand on the side line and when such a setback occurred. We mobilised resources to ensure that teaching and learning continues. We expect the school to continue producing good results even this year and beyond,” says Magagula.
Despite being under-resourced – without staff room, laboratory and library, Zama High School has made its name for being the top achiever school in Amajuba for over five years, producing between 99% and 100% matric pass.
The township school has amassed over 900 trophies – mainly for best music and academic performances in Amajuba District. It is respected throughout South Africa and has caught the eye of the minister of Basic Education who has expressed her intention to visit the school to find out what is their recipe for good results.
Recently, the school suffered a major blow when thieves broke in and stole computers, leaving learners without resources to learn during computer classes.
The matter was reported to the police and provincial government’s Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) war room. Provincial Treasury senior manager linked to Amajuba District OSS reported the matter to Magagula who responded with the donation.
“We should encourage any gesture to reach out to the needy and defend our community from social ills. OSS encourages us to make necessary interventions to improve the quality of lives to our communities.
“We shall continue to make such interventions as we have done before to many other schools throughout the province donating uniforms, stationery, furniture, and install water reticulation facilities,” says Magagula.
School Government Body Chairperson, Nhlanhla Kubheka, said as parents they are greatful to have a government that established a service delivery programme called Operation Sukuma Sakhe through which KZN Treasury donated computers and books.
“Operation Sukuma Sakhe has proven very useful to our communities and we promise to do all in our powers to protect these donations,” he said.
