Kwazulu-Natal Premier sends his condolences to the Mosunkutu family

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize has expressed his shock and sadness at the sudden passing of KZN Office of the Premier photographer, Siyabonga “Master” Mosunkutu. “It was with great sadness that we received the news of Mosunkutu’s passing in the early hours of this morning,” said Dr Mkhize.

“Siyabonga was a gifted photographer, who was able to take photographs as if he was freezing moments in time. His skill, dedication to his work and his sense of humour will be greatly missed,” said Dr Mkhize.

Mosunkutu started his career as a freelance photo-journalist, working with many mainstream newspaper companies both in the country and abroad. He set himself apart from many with his keen eye and taking photographs that told the story of KwaZulu-Natal, and was known for his courageous coverage of the political violence which ravaged the Province in the 90s.

“All the employees of the Office of the Premier were saddened by the news and will miss Mosunkutu.”
