KwaZulu-Natal to pay fitting tribute to Madiba

Plans for the provincial memorial service in honour of former President Nelson Mandela are well in advance. That’s according to the Premier of the province of KwaZulu-Natal Senzo Mchunu.

More than 50 000 people are expected to attend the memorial service to pay tribute to the world icon.

“We have arranged more than 1000 buses and taxis to transport people from across the province to Moses Mabhida Stadium for the memorial service which will take place on the 13th December. In addition, Metrorail has made available 14 trains that will ferry commuters from North Coast, South Coast, Pietermaritzburg and Greater Durban areas,” said Premier Mchunu.

“Madibas inspirational journey and indelible footprints are found in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. He was last a free man in this province and marked the birth of South Africa’s democracy by casting his vote in KwaZulu-Natal. This will be an occasion to give this revered son of the soil the mother of all send-offs by the people of the province he pulled from the brink of a civil war and placed it on the road to peace and reconciliation,” added Premier Mchunu.

The accreditation for the Media will take place at the City Hall starting from tomorrow morning at 10h00.
