KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu has welcomed the handing down of a 25 year jail sentence against the man responsible for murdering a Kloof resident, Rodney Bradley, saying this sends a strong message to criminals that they will always face the full might of the law.
Yesterday (Tuesday 21 May 2013) the Durban High Court sentenced Siyanda Majozi (23) to 25 years in jail for murdering Kloof resident, Bradley. Bradley was killed in April this year when he was confronted by a gang of three as part of what became a reign of terror by rampaging criminals in the Greater Kloof area, West of Durban.
Bradley was shot dead by assailants while his fiancée, Therese Carlson, locked herself in the bathroom, while the criminals continued to ransack and loot the house. Majozi was later apprehended by police. He pleaded guilty to his act and was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment.
MEC Mchunu, who visited the family and the area following this reign of terror in Kloof by armed gangs in April, yesterday, welcomed the heavy sentence given to Majozi.
“Firstly we commend the excellent work done by the police for swiftly bringing Majozi to book and professionally conducting the case against him. As the government, we have always said that no stone would be left unturned to by police to find criminals and bringing them to the court to face music for their evil deeds. Indeed, the sentence sends a clear message to the criminals that the long arm of law will always catch up with them wherever they are.
“The government is currently working closely with the communities and police to build a united front against crime. Communities have responded positively to these initiatives with a plethora of forums being set up to close the space for criminals,” said Mchunu.
