KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu appeals for calm following the killing of National Freedom Party local leader in uLundi

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu appeals for calm following the brutal murder of a National Freedom Party (NFP) leader who is also a local taxi operator at Mlovu outside uLundi.

According to the report, Themba Jiyane (63) who is the ward-4 NFP leader was ambushed this weekend outside his home. Jiyane was with Mr. Thuthukane Masondo (24) who sustained injuries and is in a critical condition.

The motive of the attack and killing is unknown at this stage, however Mchunu has expressed confidence that police will leave no stone unturned.

“We are concerned at the murder of a NFP leader who is also a taxi operator in the area. No matter what the motive is, no person has a right to take the law into his hands. The killing of public representatives and community leaders destabilise the communities. I am confident that police will soon find perpetrators of this crime. I appeal for calm in the community of Mlovu and appeal to anyone with the information to work with the police. I would like to send my condolences to the Jiyane family,” said Mchunu.
