MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu condemns the killing of two taxi operators.
Vusumuzi Khuzwayo from Folweni was killed yesterday in uMlazi V section. The motive of the killing is still unknown and no arrests have been made.
In a separate incident yesterday, at about 18h45, Henrick Magcaba who is a taxi operator under the Mophela Taxi association, was also shot and killed in Malangeni by two unknown men and was taken to the local clinic where he was declared dead on arrival.
Both these killings have not been linked to any taxi dispute, however such possibilities cannot be ruled out. The police are hard at work to find the perpetrators.
Mchunu is alarmed by the killings of taxi operators in the province as this possesses a potential instability the industry.
'Our strong appeal is that people must resort to peaceful means than violence when resolving their differences. Crime in any form is not acceptable. I would like to urge the community to work with the police to find these criminals. I would like to send my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones', said Mchunu.
