KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Social Development, Mrs Weziwe Thusi, has expressed her condolences to the families of the six people who died on the R66 in Melmoth, northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Two of the people involved in the accident were social workers, under the employ of the Department of Social Development. One social worker passed away, while the other one is critical in hospital.
“It is a great loss for the Department and the people of South Africa, particularly KwaZulu-Natal. The social work profession is a scarce skill and one loss is one too many. The two social workers were committed to their work of serving the people of KwaZulu-Natal, thus contributing to unlocking service delivery backlogs. I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who passed away in the accident and also wish the survivor a speedy recovery,” said MEC Thusi.
MEC Thusi will tomorrow visit the families of the deceased social worker to pay her respects and will later visit the other employee who is in hospital.
