KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education Senzo Mchunu sends his condolences

The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Senzo Mchunu, would like to send his deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, fellow learners and educators of Nkosinathi Mngomezulu, who was found dead today, 16 April 2013.

Nkosinathi (9 years old), who was a Grade 3 learner at Maphumzane Primary School in C Section Umlazi, is believed to have accidentally shot himself on a chest. The gun with which Nkosinathi shot himself was taken by Nkosinathi and his friends from a parent of one of Nkosinathi’s friends.

It is said that the deceased was playing with his friends inside the friend’s house, where the father of Nkosinathi’s friend was cleaning his gun. After receiving a call on his cellphone, the father left the house to take the call outside. Nkosinathi and friends are said to have taken the gun and ran outside with it. While other kids came back, Nkosinathi is said to have disappeared with the gun.

The owner of a gun reported the matter to the police who then started a search for the boy. His lifeless body was only found today with the gun wound on his chest and a gun firmly in his hands.

“This is a very tragic incident. No pain can match that one of losing a child. May God grant the family strength during this very difficult period,” said MEC Mchunu.
