KwaZulu-Natal Finance on school monitoring legislature meeting with stakeholders

The school monitoring legislature programme culminates with stakeholders meeting

Today in Pietermaritzburg: The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Legislature School Functionality Monitoring Programme culminated with a fruitful meeting between the members of parliament and uMgungundlovu District education stakeholders who attended in large numbers at the fully packed hall in Carter High School today.

KZN legislature delegation led by the KZN MEC for Finance, Ina Cronje who is also the Champion MEC for uMgungudlovu District, listened attentively to the concerns and suggestions made by members of the School Governing Bodies (SGB’s), community leaders, and school management teams. Infrastructure dominated the issues that were raised by stakeholders.

The SGB Chairperson of Mphelandaba High, Mr Albert Kleinbooi (on the photo), said that his school do not have enough toilets. “If the department can quickly attend to the issue of building enough toilets for my school, we will highly appreciate that”.

Speaking at the meeting a Member of Parliament, Mr Sipho Gcabashe said that “When assessing the schools readiness for the new school year it becomes really difficult to get the sense of what is really happening in each and every corner of the district. Hence we took the resolution as legislature to visit as many schools as possible on the first day then on the second day meet potential stakeholders who can also give us the gist of what is happening in other corners of the district where we could not reach”.

“This engagement will benefit the education of the entire province because with the information that we got from the stakeholders holders today we can now honestly give an intensive report back to parliament about the state of readiness in uMgungundlovu District which will also give us an opportunity to deal with maximum issues and concerns of the district as raised by stakeholders. From here we will compile a report with a detailed programme on how we are going to deal with all the issues raised, and then come up with action plan and time frames which will be communicated back to all the present stakeholders through the right channels” said Gcabashe.

The legislature delegation showed gratitude to all the stakeholders for the role they each play in ensuring that “doors of learning and culture shall be opened” to all.
