Doors of learning opened for Oakford and Sacred Heart
The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal has expropriated the property where Oakford Primary School and Sacred Heart Secondary School are located. This means from the 28 January 2014, this property vest on the state and the state becomes the owner.
This judgment comes in the wake of the protracted legal battle, following the decision of Mr Maritz, a farm owner, to close the school gates, thus denying leaners access to the two respective schools. "The department feels very vindicated and we are quite excited. We are happy that henceforth there is not going to be anything stopping these learners from accessing education which is an Apex Priority for this government," said the Head of Department, Nkosinathi SP Sishi (PhD).
