The colorful mini events kicked with the donating a house to an indigent family at eFolweni, on the south of Durban, and this was followed handing over a R 3 million cheque to the Mvelo-Wise, a community agricultural organisation that is involved with setting up of community gardens to assist those members of the community who can’t put food on the table.
The last stop was at the Ohlange Institute at Inanda north of Durban. This is where the hive of activities took place. The KZN rugby out, The Sharks also joined in the festivities. The 67 minutes of the Nelson Mandela Day concluded with the paying of respect and laying of wreath at the tombstone of South Africa’s Struggle for freedom stalwart, philosopher, educator, politician, publisher, editor, novelist and the founding President of the African National Congress, the legendary John Langalibalele Dube.
