KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture hosts Umkhosi Wesivivane 2015

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture, in partnership with the Zulu Royal Household, is hosting Umkhosi Wesivivane in Nongoma this weekend. The annual event sees women from across the province gathering at the KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace to take part in the programme.

The ceremony serves as a platform where women can be equipped with skills on how to better deal with socio-economic challenges, hold discussions with the Zulu Queens on issues that affect them in their respective districts and take part in the preparation of umhlanga at Mpakamo Sports Ground. The bundled reeds will be presented to His Majesty Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini this afternoon. The programme also includes motivational talks and exhibitions.

All women are invited to attend the event except maidens as they have Umkhosi Womhlanga in September.

“Umkhosi Wesivivane falls under our women’s month activities. It aims to educate and empower women with management and leadership skills. Celebrating this aspect of the Zulu culture also instills a sense of pride in the women who come here from all walks of life” said HOD Sibongile Nzimande.
