KwaZulu-Natal animal healthcare programme launch

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development has handed over 11 dip tanks to Muden livestock farmers during its animal healthcare programme launch today on 26 March 2011. The department embarked on dip tank rehabilitation in many communities across the province.

Last year the department embarked on a roadshow to meet stakeholders in various districts. The intention was to meet local farmers in their areas, talk to them about their livelihoods and share information. This was done through attending livestock shows where MEC Johnson got to assess the difficulties that livestock farmers face every day and then collectively engaged in finding solutions. Today’s handover is evidence that the department is committed to improve the profile of communal farming in the province.

Diptank rehabilitation is crucial to the livestock programme. One of the most important aspects of the livestock programme is animal healthcare.

The MEC participated in the dipping, dehorning, branding and deworming of livestock.
