KwaMashu community promised MEC Cronje to ponder about their personal finances

Thousands of women gathered at KwaMashu for the launch of Savings Campaign vowed to lead by example in ensuring that they get their families out of debt by teaching their families to save.

The event organised by Provincial Treasury during Women's Month and held at KwaMashu Community Hall, L Section today, was attended by more than 2 000 people including men.

Buselaphi Magwaza, an unemployed community member said that despite her dilapidating state of finances, she will heed the call of the Provincial MEC for finance, Ms Ina Cronjé to save no matter how small your household income
happens to be.

Magwaza who stays with her four kids and with nobody working in her household said, "what I learnt from MEC Cronje is that we have to save for rainy days, the small money that I make by selling beads, I will try and put some
aside for when I really need it."

MEC Cronje encouraged women to lead by example by encouraging their families to save. She said saving must start at an early age so that by the time we approach retirement, there is enough to sustain our lifestyle.

"Research shows that 94% of South Africans rely on credit. This ensures that they get dipper into debt. We need to be like China, a country that relies largely on saving. That is why their economy is one of the fastest growing ones
in the world. If China has done, so can we," she said.
