KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu has commended the South African Police Service (SAPS) (Kennedy Road Special Task Team) for having "acted speedily, and with diligence," after three suspects were apprehended at the weekend.
Mchunu was quick to add that, "the 24hour policing at Kennedy Road Informal Settlement remains and more suspects are being sought." According to the SAPS report to the MEC, on Saturday, 10 October a key suspect was arrested at Flagstaff in the Eastern Cape, on Sunday, 11 October, two suspects were arrested at Clare Estate. All three men are wanted for murder, attempted murder and public violence at the Kennedy Road Informal Settlement. Suspects are expected to appear in Court on Tuesday, 13 October."
"I am impressed by the Task Team’s early success. It is this kind of dedication to duty that we require from all members of the SAPS. The community of Kennedy Road Informal Settlement deserves and will receive government support in bringing back order and normality in their area. Criminals must beware, more are to be apprehended," Mchunu said.
He added: "Suspects remain innocent until proven guilty. I urge the community of Kennedy Road Informal Settlement to respect the due process of the law. I further ask them to give crime busters (task team) 100% support. Report crimes to them, submit a list of alleged criminals, and the Team will act accordingly."
