The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal is ready and prepared to administer the Annual National Assessment (ANA) commencing on 10 September 2013. A total of 6 288 learners will write ANA in 2013 in KwaZulu-Natal.
All Grades one to six and nine learners in public (mainstream and special) and state-subsidised independent schools are being registered in order to improve the administration of ANA. The process of capturing registration of all grades one to six and nine learners will be finalised by 31 July 2013.
The printing of test papers has commenced and the total number of prints anticipated is 30 million. The packaging will commence on 1 August 2013 and the distribution will be done from 2 September 2013. The printing will be done strictly according to the printing, packaging and distribution procedure i.e. printing and packaging one paper at the time. Delivery of test papers to districts is scheduled for 2 to 5 September and 46 nodal points have been identified for the delivery and distribution of test papers.
In preparation for 2013 ANA administration, a pilot study was conducted by the DBE on 26 to 27 March 2013 to check the suitability and quality of questions to be administered in September 2013. The six nationally sampled schools from Pinetown District participated in the pilot study and answer script were marked in the province and forwarded to DBE.
Markers were selected for marking and moderation of grades three, six and nine in terms of criteria set out in PAM and they were selected proportionally to the number of script per district. A total of 442 markers have been selected for this purpose.
