At about 24h00 today, 11 maidens were involved in a stampede incident at the Enyokeni Royal Residence, in Nongoma, northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Three of the maidens are in a critical but stable condition and all of them were taken to St Benedictine Hospital in Nongoma.
The department is still investigating the cause of the incident and further details will be released to the media at an appropriate time. The Department of Arts and Culture wishes all the maidens who have been injured a speedy recovery.
