Human Rights Day in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize today led the province in observing Human Rights Day during a celebration attended by thousands in Dumbe Municipality.

The event was also attended by guests of the province, Ms Maria Elias Jonas, the Governor of Maputo, Mozambique, and her 16 strong delegation.

Dr Mkhize said its important for South Africans to be able to say thank you to neighbouring countries for the role they played a major role in the liberation of this country.

"When things were very bad in this country, some of us were force into exile. We were recieved with warm hands," said Dr Mkhize.

He said the pain suffered by the people of Mozambique was not because they had done anything wrong but because the apartheid government's bid to drive all liberation fighters out of Mozambique.

He said it is important for South Africans to accept people from our neighbouring counties and know that they contributed to our liberation.
