Home Affairs launches inaugural South African Migrants Awards

The Department of Home Affairs today launched the inaugural South African Migrants Awards, an initiative that demonstrates the department’s commitment to building a caring, inclusive and unified South African society.

The South African Migrant Awards are a key enabler for tolerance, social cohesion and integration of migrants and foreign nationals within South African communities, while simultaneously making a significant contribution to building a culture of African unity.

The South African Migrants Awards honour and celebrate outstanding migrants who reside in South Africa, as well as South Africans working beyond the borders of the country, embodying the spirit of Ubuntu and dedicated to the development of the African continent through their work.

South Africans are encouraged to support the South African Migrants Awards and show their commitment towards creating a better society and building a united Africa by nominating individuals who have made an impactful difference in their field of expertise, in 1 of the below 6 categories: 

  • Arts and Culture
  • Business
  • Civil Society and non-government organisation
  • Sport
  • OR Tambo
  • Most Integrated Community

To nominate, individuals are encouraged to send the following details to migrantsawards@dha.gov.za:

1. Nominator’s Name and Surname

2. Nominator’s Email Address

3. The Nomination Category

4. The Name and Surname of the Nominee 

5. The Reasons Why the Nominee should be considered as a Category Winner

(In not more than 250 words, include how the Nominee has demonstrated meeting and exceeding category requirements)

An advisory panel will select one winner per category for the inugural South African Migrants Awards. The winners will be announced during a recognition ceremony on Africa Day, Monday 25 May 2015 in Johannesburg.
