Dr Zweli Mkhize, Premier of the Province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has called on the people of KwaZulu-Natal to support Bafana Bafana as they take on Senegal tomorrow afternoon.
“We are grateful to His Majesty, Isilo SamaBandla for setting aside time to be part of this important game in our country. His Majesty’s presence will surely inspire Bafana Bafana to play this game on behalf of the nation.”
Importantly, His Majesty has always supported the provincial government’s plan aimed at positioning KZN as a sporting destination. He personally mobilized the people of KwaZulu-Natal to support the World Cup in 2010. We put forward a bid to host this game because we are confident that the people of this province will attend in large numbers.
His Majesty has always emphasised the importance of using sports to promote behavioural change amongst young people and to enforce social cohesion.
“Tomorrow morning I will be joined by the MEC for Sports and Recreation Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha, SAFA officials on a visit to Ulundi and Vryheid. We will distribute sports kits to sports clubs of youth ambassadors. We want young people to be ambassadors of change and we are using sports as a catalyst.”
Later in the afternoon, His Majesty will meet his warriors, Bafana Bafana and SAFA, to wish them well ahead of the battle against Senegal.
His Majesty will also attend the game to give moral support to the national team. He has called on all the people of KwaZulu-Natal and leaders of society to show loyalty to the nation by carrying the national flag tomorrow and wear Bafana Bafana jersey.
The office of the Premier will provide more details once all arrangements for His Majesty have been completed.
