Health and treasury take service delivery to Nquthu

Wheelchairs, walking sticks, spectacles and cream for albinism were distributed to pre-selected deserving people during the integrated service delivery during which MEC for Finance, Ina Cronjé officially opened the nursing college and a brand new kitchen at Charles Johnson hospital.

The event led by Cronjé who was also representing MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, head of Treasury, Simiso Magagula, was attended by business people and community of Nquthu today. The day started with a post-budget breakfast at VA Makhoba hall at which issues such as lack of support for co-operatives, lack of support for agricultural projects as well as the need to roll out financial literacy lessons to small businesses were raised.

Cronjé said government must continue to implement the principle of “doing more with less” in an effort to spend tax payers’ money wisely.

“The budget process is not a government-alone story, but it must involve communities and their views as the basis of budget allocations to different government departments. As we celebrate the 20 years of freedom and democracy, want communities to know that as government, we have their interests at heart,” she said.

With regards to health services, Cronjé said “I am happy to announce today that for the majority of our uninsured citizens of Umzinyathi District, we have invested a sum of R167,4 million at Charles Johnson Hospital in order to make improvements on laundry, kitchen, nursing college, new library, new lecture offices and as well as new accommodation building.”

Zakhele Ngcobo said the government still needs to look closely at the school feeding scheme as there are hiccups that needed intervention.
