Gauteng Legislature invites media personnel to register for annual access pass

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature hereby invites all media personnel in the Gauteng region to forward their details for an annual access pass into the Legislature’s Media Centre.

Annual registration was proposed when GPL launched its Media Centre in July 2015. The establishment of a Media Centre was part of GPL’s efforts to ensure a conducive working environment for media stakeholders within the Legislature’s precinct, thus catering to the needs of journalists and reporters. Being based in Gauteng (particularly Johannesburg) which is the centre of the South African media industry and home to a wide range of community and commercial media outlets, the Legislature’s business attracts substantial attention from media personnel who report on the work of GPL.

The daily business of the Legislature, which includes House Sittings and Committee meetings attract media stakeholders on a daily basis. These are platforms where MPLs debate various issues concerning the governance of the Province and the performance of Gauteng Government Departments on service delivery – which are matters of interest to the media and the people of Gauteng. Some of the activities on the GPL calendar that generate greater media interest include the Official Opening of the Legislature, where

Gauteng Premier delivers the State of the Province Address; Budget Votes as well as the Annual Report process.

The annual membership will enable media access to GPL in order to conduct their work without the inconvenience of lengthy registration processes with every visit. The membership will also ensure media access to designated GPL areas, e.g. Media Gallery and Media Centre; secure parking at the Harry Hofmeyer car park; and access to canteen services at GPL Staff rates.

N.B Please check the GPL website for House Sitting details and the overall programme of the Legislature http://www.gpl.gov.za/order-papers .

Members of the media will be required to have appropriate accreditation for all GPL activities henceforth. Members of the media are required to complete the attached (which includes name and surname; ID number; and name of media outlet) and send back together with a copy of ID. Communication will be issued to the media on completion of the vetting process; where access cards will be ready for collection. Please send all required details by Tuesday, 3rd November 2015.
