Gauteng Health wishes patients of Grayson Drive bridge accident a speedy recovery

The Gauteng Department of Health wishes to convey its condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones from the collapse of a bridge over the M1 freeway at the Grayston Drive interchange in Sandton yesterday. The department also wished a speedy recovery to all those who were injured and admitted at various health facilities across Johannesburg.

Those patients who were admitted in the public hospitals are in a stable, but critical condition and the numbers are as follows:

  • Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital admitted three patients who are in a serious but stable condition at the trauma ICU.
  • Tembisa Hospital admitted nine patients and of those, seven were admitted with serious injuries, while two were assessed and discharged yesterday.
  • Helen Joseph Hospital treated two patients who were discharged yesterday.

MEC for Health in Gauteng, Ms Qedani Mahlangu said: “We would like to thank Emergency Medical Services, officials from both private and public sectors, nurses, doctors and other officials who worked tireless to save lives, their diligent work will always be appreciated.”
