Thelle Mogoerane hospital services not affected by employee resignations

The Gauteng Department of Health has noted with concern the high number of employee resignation at Thelle Mogoerane Regional hospital. MEC Mahlangu stated in a written reply to the Gauteng Legislature that the Hospital management is working closely with the provincial Department to address this situation and the services have not been affected.  

“The hospital management is working very hard to ensure there is no disruption to services and they timeously fill vacant positions as and when they are vacated. To address this all vacant positions that are funded have been advertised and recruitment process is continually being carried out”, said MEC Mahlangu. 

The hospital has a staff compliment of about 1693 and 86 employees have resigned this year alone in the following departments:  Allied - 6; Medical - 15; Nursing - 52; Administration - 3; Support - 10. Hospital’s vacant positions are spread across departments. The most affected department is nursing with 198, followed by admin with 87, allied has 57 and the least affected is medical with 46 vacancies.

MEC Mahlangu also revealed that the hospital had high bed occupancy rate as listed below: 

  • Medical - 104%
  • Surgical - 92%
  • Orthopedic -  80%
  • Burns - 80% 
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology - 80%
  • High care - 80%
  • Step-down -  92%
  • Psychiatry - 85%
  • Pediatrics - 75%
  • Intensive Care Unit - 67%
