Fuel price adjustment effective from 7 October 2015

The Department of Energy herewith informs the public about the fuel prices for October 2015. South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors.

The pump price of petrol 93 Octane will decrease slightly whilst that of petrol 95 Octane will increase by less than 5 c/l. The whole sale price of both grades of diesel, the Maximum Retail Price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and the prices of Illuminating Paraffin will increase with effect from 07 October 2015.

The main reasons for this fuel price adjustment is the weakening of the Rand against the US Dollar which had a negative impact on the fuel prices of about 30c/l and slight increase in the price of crude oil, (on average), in September compared to August. In other words, if the Rand had stayed at the same level, on average, against the US Dollar as it was August, the prices of petrol would be decreasing by 25-30c/l and diesel would be increasing by 20c/l next month (October 2015).

Based on current local and international factors, the fuel prices October 2015 in the South African market will be adjusted as follows:

1. Petrol (93 Octane) will decrease by 2.00 cents/litre
2.  Petrol (95 Octane) will increase by 4.00 cents/litre
3. Diesel (0.05% Sulphur) will increase by 53 .00 cents/ litre.
4. Diesel (0.005% Sulphur) will increase by 51.00 cents/ litre
5. Illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will increase by 67.00 cents/litre.
6. Illuminating paraffin (wholesale) will increase by 50.00 cents/litre.
7. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will increase by 11.00 cents/kilogram.

The pricing schedule for all the pricing zones will be published on Tuesday, 6 October 2015.

The Department of Energy urge motorists and all the households that use paraffin and LPGas to continue to use energy sparingly during these difficult economic conditions.
