The department hereby confirms the statement issued by the Honourable Tina Joemat-Peterson, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, that some animals in Northern KwaZulu-Natal have tested positive for Foot and Mouth Disease.
The national Department of Agriculture, and the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development are currently meeting to assess the situation and to formulate a containment strategy. There is no reason to panic at this stage.
