Environment, Forestry and Fisheries invites public comments on amendment of compulsory registration date for EAPs

Public comment invited on amendment of compulsory registration date for EAPs

The public have been invited to comment on the proposed extension of the date of compulsory registration for Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs).

The Notice containing the proposed amendment of Regulation 22 of the Section 24H Registration Authority Regulations, 2016, was published by the Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy, in Government Gazette 42967 (Notice No. 40) in terms of the National  Environmental Management Act, 1998 on 24 January 2020.

Regulation 22 presently requires the registration of EAPs by 8 February 2020.  In order to allow more time for the registration process to be completed, the Notice proposes an amendment of the compulsory registration date. It is proposed that this date be extended by 24 months. The additional time would allow for the facilitation of additional applications and for the processing of applications received by the appointed registration authority.

Whilst all competent authorities will accept applications after 8 February 2020 from non-registered EAPs, practitioners are strongly encouraged to submit their applications for registration with the registration authority.

Members of the public are invited to submit written comments or inputs to the Minister within 30 days of publication of this Notice in the Government Gazette, to the following addresses:
