Energy on Business Day misleading article about Strategic Fuel Fund

Minister of energy rebuts negative article by Business Day’s Linda Ensor

Today, 20 February 2018, Linda Ensor (Business day journalist) wrote a misleading article in which she deliberately misrepresented facts about investigations on the Strategic Fuel Fund. She alleged that “the two-year investigation of the sale of 10-million barrels of the country’s strategic fuel reserves by the Strategic Fuel Fund (SFF) had to be abandoned because the international legal firm conducting it had declared a conflict of interest. The story is incorrect and wrongly fed to the public.

The following facts are a true reflection of the developments on the Strategic Fuel Fund Investigations: The Minister has not abandoned the investigation, the probe is continuing, people involved will be interviewed and given a chance to respond to the allegations contained in the report where they are found to be at fault will have to account emphasized the Minister.

The Department strongly condemns this misrepresentation and misinterpretation of facts by the said journalists and calls for proper reporting that is informed by properly researched content.

The journalist should have afforded the Minister the opportunity to reply and clarify this matter before feeding the public poor content which has the intention to tarnish the reputation of the Minister and the Department.
