Department of Arts and Culture scoops excellence award

The Department of Arts and Culture is proud to be selected as an overall winner in the provincial category of the South African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA) Annual Public Sector Reporting Awards and number four in the National category.

The award was presented to the department recently. The awards are managed and administered by (SAIGA) with the support and co-operation of the Accountant-General, as well as the Auditor-General.

Accepting the award, the provincial MEC for Arts and Culture, Mrs Weziwe Thusi, said it was proof that hard work really paid off.

"We are extremely excited about this award. It is an indication that public funds are in good hands in the management of this department. One should express gratitude to the team that has been involved in this process that has seen us come tops in the province and making a significant mark nationally. One is humbled and encouraged to work even harder so that we do better next year. The department is mindful of the fact that we are mandated to manage public funds and it is only proper that we account appropriately as to how the funds have been spent," said Thusi.

Head of Department, Mrs Stella Khumalo, said that the department was committed to ensuring that public funds were put to good use.

"This award is a culmination of stringent measures that have been put in place to ensure there is fiscal discipline in the department. We have a dedicated team that ensures a high level of professionalism and we account for each and every cent that has been allocated to us.
